Costa Rice Mission Service Trip February 16-25, 2016 Day 1 &2 We started out at 8:55 am Tues. morning after having devotions from Phil. 4:1-7. We were encouraged to work together for God's Kingdom in Strathroy but also in Costa Rica. “Be anxious about nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." The ride to Toronto was slushy and messy. Our flight was delayed about 1 1/2 hours due to weather conditions. We had a quick stop in San Salvador. We ended up having to go on two different planes from there to Costa Rica. The ladies then separated from the men, except for Jenny Feddema (who, it seems, is unable to go anywhere without John). As you might imagine, we've done a lot of laughing today. After a 40 minute drive from the airport in San Jose we arrived at our destination at 1:40 am (EST). We took a very interesting maze of streets to get "home," which is 3500 ft. up in the mountains from San Jose. We are very grateful to our Heavenly Father for His bountiful care over us today. We had a very good day, with great fellowship as well. Day 2 Given the one hour time difference and the lateness of arriving at our destination, last night was a short night for sleeping. The men didn't adjust too quickly to the time change here so at 5:30 a.m. we heard a loud "Good Morning Costa Rica" from one of the Bork brothers. John led us in opening devotions by reading Titus 3 after which he asked the Lord for His blessing on our first day of work here in Costa Rica. Breakfast was served at 7 a.m. and was enjoyed by all. Brian Bolt took us on a tour through the school, discussing with us the work that needed to be done. And so the work began. Rebecca, Elise, Emma and Janneke took on the task of painting the new print shop. Their singing was heard throughout the building. Henk and Jack took on the task of building and welding steel shelving for the print shop. Els and Evelyn took on the task of painting ceilings in the classrooms as well as painting stalls in the washroom. John, Bert and George took on the task of preparing one of the walls in a classroom as well as installing ceiling tiles that were missing. Jenny and Margaret spent the day off-site at the print shop correlating paper. They were given a tour of the Christian School by Aletha Green. We also enjoyed the company of Gloria and Lorna from Iowa who were very helpful to us. Much work was accomplished and a good day of fellowship was had by all. We enjoyed a good supper together. Evelyn led our devotions focussing on "What does it mean that God is our Father.." She then thanked our God for His goodness to us in this day. A time of singing was enjoyed by all. God is faithful and His Word is true. To Him be the power and the glory forever and ever. |
